New Obsession: She Sheds

In response to the man cave trend, women are trying to cultivate a space all to themselves as well. Have you heard about these new adorable options? They're calling it a "she-shed" and I'm OBSESSED with them! Taking a vacation is as easy as a trip to the backyard where you can escape the daily grind with a hideout all to yourself!

More and more ladies are staking claim in their backyards as a spot to call their own, whether it be for gardening or crafting or just somewhere to relax and read. If you have a neglected potting shed in your backyard, you can turn it into an oasis. Even if you don't already have a shed or you just want a fresh new space, there are she-shed kits ready to go, like this Hopkins Shed from Wayfair.

Whether you already have an old shed to reinvent or are looking at purchasing a new home-away-from-home, here are some steps to get you started in the right direction:

STEP 1: If you are re-purposing an old shed, clean it completely out. (If you are building a new one, go to step 2)

STEP 2: Break out the paint swatches and get to work! Give your shed a fresh coat of paint, inside and out.

STEP 3: Define the purpose of your shed. The point of a she-shed is to have a quiet space that allows you to embrace a hobby (or downtime) that's important to you. Here are few examples: a potting/gardening shed, a crafting shed, a work-from-home space, or just a place to curl up with a book or visit with friends.

STEP 4: Search flea markets or antique shops for unique finds. If shopping isn't in the budget, look around your house for items that you might not miss and relocate them to your new space. You would be surprised how many things you really have in a space!

STEP 5: Surround yourself with nature by placing your shed in a secluded spot in your backyard. Surround it with plants, vines, and flowers to helps create a tranquil vibe.

STEP 6: Create an inviting entryway, especially if you're hoping to entertain friends. Think window boxes with flowers, curtains in the windows, and a tiny mailbox for extra charm!

There are no rules when it comes to creating the perfect she-shed – it's YOUR space to with what you want. In the end you should have a space that's a reflection of you and your interests and somewhere you can escape the daily grind to relax and unwind. So get creative and remember to have fun!
